Display limit values:
the contrast

Part 2 of our series display limit values

Reading time: 1 minute

How is the contrast determined? In today's blog article, we will briefly discuss the measurement method.

The presentation

The contrast value is displayed as a function of the viewing angle by means of false colours or ISO contrast diagram which indicate the places where the same contrast prevails. The contrast value is the ratio of the brightness between the on and off state, the value is given as 1 : X.

The measurement

The display to be measured is located in the centre. The brightness value of the display is determined with a camera over the complete hemisphere of the sphere. Two measurements are made, one measurement with all pixels on, one measurement with all pixels off.  The ratio of the brightness values at a certain measuring point gives the contrast value.
