TFT Display for a Precision Analytical Laboratory Balance
For the Series 520 analytical laboratory balances, we developed a high-quality TFT display solution as an upgrade to the existing PB model. Instead of a passive segment display, a colour 5-inch TFT display with capacitive touch operation is used.
The focus was on intuitive operation, high-quality and clear visual presentation, and an attractive price-performance ratio. The TFT display thus combines modern user guidance with cost-effective implementation for industrial applications.
The Challenge: Touch Operation Outside the Display Area
In addition to the display itself, important basic functions needed to remain accessible at all times. To achieve this, permanently printed touch fields were integrated along the sides, outside the visible TFT display area.
The cover glass also placed high demands on design and functionality. The freeform shape of the glass, the high-quality multicolour printing on the reverse side, and the continuous double-sided adhesive tape had to be combined into a reliable and visually appealing overall solution.
The challenge was therefore to integrate a modern TFT display with touch functionality and additional controls into a sophisticated, compact housing design.
The Solution: 5-Inch IPS TFT Display with PCAP Touch
A 5-inch IPS TFT display with PCAP touch, a brightness of 400 cd/m² and an RGB interface is used. The touch sensor was extended laterally beyond the visible display area.
The key advantage: Both the TFT display and the additional touch fields are controlled by the same fully graphical touch controller. This made it possible to extend the touch-sensitive area efficiently, with virtually no additional costs.
